Transfer Grade of Incoming Student video

The following steps are for the entering an assignment for students transferring into a class at a new school. This can also be used for a student that has had a schedule change into a new class at the same school. You can enter the incoming average accumulated from the the previous school.

  1. Follow the standard instructions for Creating Assignments with a few changes:
  2. For the Assignment Title, use an unique title since this is only for one student.
  3. If you are using Category, you will need a transfer grade assignment for each category.
    • Method 1: Enter a Grading Average from the Previous Class
Make the assignment worth 100 points.
Note: If this is a class with weighted categories (Ex. 30% Homework and 70% Tests), make two transfer assignments, one for each category.
    a. One for the first weighted category called “Transfer Student category name 1”
    b. Another for the other weighted category called “Transfer Student category name 2”
    c. If there are other weighted categories, repeat as needed.
    • Method 2: Enter Points Earned and Points Possible (raw score) From the Previous Class - In this scenario, the student is coming in having earned 180 out of 200 points in the previous class.
Make the assignment worth the number of points possible from the previous class: (Ex: 200 points)
Note: If this is a class with weighted categories (Ex. 30% Homework and 70% Tests), make two transfer assignments, one for each weighted category.
    a. One for the first weighted category called “Transfer studentlastname category 1”
    b. Another for the other weighted category called “Transfer studentlastname category2”
    c. If there are other weighted categories, repeat as needed.
  4. The Copy feature can assist in making the new assignment.
    • The user can use the Copy to other Sections feature in the following conditions:
    • If the new assignment is not using a category and the 'copy to' section is also not using a category.
    • If the new assignment uses a category and the 'copy to' section also uses a category.
  5. You need to post an E (Exempt) grade for all other students. The user can use the Duplicate Grade process for faster posting of Es. This will prevent other parents from thinking that their child has to make up a missing assignment when they see a blank grade in the Student Progress Center.
