Remote classes is when students go to other school sites to take a class. Common examples are Gifted classes or Career/Vocational courses offered at another school in the district. The primary advantage is that the teacher at the Host School sees all students scheduled to the class on one gradebook roster, regardless of what school the students come from.
- The Host School, who offers sections to other schools, first identifies the classes that are available to other school sites. (see directions below)
- The Receiving School then uses the Remote button to bring in the classes from the Host school site. Students are then scheduled to the classes. (see directions below)
For the Host School
Locate the section to be offered to other school's students.
On the row of the section, locate the column labeled REM. Check the box in the column REM on the row of the section to offer to other school's students.
Directly to the left of the REM cell is the MREM cell. The MREM cell is for controlling the maximum number of students from each school that will be allowed into the class.
- Click in the MREM cell and enter a number that represents the number of students from each school allowed into the course.
- Click the Save button to confirm the maximum remote student count.
Click the Refresh button at the bottom of the Master Schedule Editor.
The user will now see that the Hosted class is highlighted teal to indicate that these are available for scheduling students from other school sites.
NOTE: If the Host School has specific sections for specific schools, it is a good idea to communicate with the other school sites to indicate which sections are intended for their specific students.
- TIP: Use the Comment field of the master schedule to help identify which section is meant for which school sites.
- Example: Gifted students from the east side of the district will be in hosted class 555001. Gifted students from the west side of the district will be in hosted class 555002. Place a Comment of "East" or "West" to guide Sending schools on which section needs to be imported to their Master Schedule Editor.
For the Receiving School
At the bottom of the Master Schedule Editor, click the Remote button.
Another screen will appear. On the left are the schools offering courses. Place a check next to the desired school.
A list of courses available from the Host school chosen, will appear on the right. You can use the search box above this section of the screen if the length of the list justifies a search. Check the section(s) needed.
- It is a very good idea to check with the host school to verify the correct sections are being chosen.
- If the Remote school changes the Max and MREM counts in their Master Schedule Editor, it will also update in the schools that have previously pulled in those remote classes.
Check Import Teams to have the team assignments import also. These were originally set up in Team Scheduling Update Utility.
Click the Import button at the bottom of the screen.
- Note: A 700 user, after clicking Import, will get another window that will give the user the ability to select multiple schools to import the section into.
If this is the correct section, Click Yes to the question verifying the import.
Repeat, if necessary, steps 2 - 5 if other sections from other schools need to be imported. Otherwise, click Close to return to the Master Schedule Editor.
